Standing on the southern end of Cherrapunji from famous Nohsng-lthiang falls, I could see the mountain ridges sloping down from 3000ft to sea level.

From the southern side beyond the hills, lies Bangladesh, hardly 20 kms away from Cherrapunji.

The Delta form, where the rivers Meghna, Brahmaputra and the Ganges meet the sea, results in huge amount of water getting collected in Bangladesh. This water results in formation of clouds. These clouds move towards north-eastern part of India.

They strike the first mountain range, resulting in incessant rainfall. This range is the famous Khasi hill, and Cherrapunji is located at the southern edge of the eastern Khasi hills of Meghalaya.
