Politicians in North India states take oath in Hindi, in the south they take oath in the assembly in respective languages. Then why can’t Abu Azmi take an oath in Marathi. No one is forcing him to speak in Marathi in the assembly, but at least when Maharashtra has given him so much he must learn to respect Marathi.

Mumbai is a cosmopolitan city but that doesn’t mean that one should disrespect, its natives and languages. Most of us are proud when we know foreign languages like French or German, but why not try to learn our own basic Indian languages?

I know some Marathi and in learnt it to bond with the local population. Azmi resorted to extreme belligerence, he first asked if he could get official documents in Hindi.  Every minister and parliamentarian should know the basic language of the state, otherwise how will he know the problems of his people.
