It is indeed a star-studded annual event for the Yerawada jail this year. Not only Bollywood star Sanjay Dutt will be performing in the jail’s annual show, it is being given finishing touches by National award winning filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani and directed by noted actor Rahul Solapurkar.

The entire script of the play ‘Darkness to Light’ has been written by a jail inmate Narendra Bhoir. It will be staged at Balgandharva Rangmandir on Thursday between 3 pm and 5 pm.

“With Hirani’s help, a bit of our script has been modified. The play is based on a boy who is from a Western country and comes to India to learn our culture. The events covered in the play are varied – right from Maratha history, pre-post Independence era, drought, zamindari system, Mahatma Gandhi besides a small script on 26/11 attack,” said sources in the jail.

At present, separate rehearsals are taking place for male and female inmates, sources said, adding, “Sanjay Dutt will deliver dialogues from ‘Munnabhai MBBS’ praising the work of Mahatma Gandhi and in another skit, he will shake a leg.”
