A 14-year-old boy staying in an orphanage in Mandhare Vasti village helped the police nab a 20-year-old suspect in a rape and murder case.

It was on basis of the standard IX student‘s description of the culprit that the police sketched his poster and displayed it throughout the village. He had seen the 11-year-old victim with the rapist and thus had informed the police.

The Yavat police have identified the youth as Nitin Narayan Kadam (20) who was arrested on Sunday. The body of the victim was recovered from the sugarcane farm at Moje Kutbab taluka in Daund on Thursday.

Kadam was produced before special judge in Baramati and was remanded in police custody till September 2.

He helped us with the culprit’s description and we displayed it in the nearby 10 villages. On Sunday afternoon, we came to know that in Nathachi village, the poster of Kadam was torn. On this tip off, we went to the village and with the help of the villagers arrested him.”
