It was a year ago when close friends Shah Rukh Khan and Rajiv Bajaj, managing director of Bajaj Auto Ltd, met at the logo launch party of Kolkata Knight Riders, when Khan voiced his desire to own a KTM 200 Duke motorcycle. But keeping Khan’s back problem in mind, wife Gauri Khan wouldn’t agree and secretly hinted to Bajaj not to give into Khan’s incessant demands.

“I was enjoying saying no to Shah Rukh. But last October, his secretary called to say that he wants a KTM and that there are no two ways about it. I had to give in,” recalled Bajaj with a smile.

It was a few months ago that Khan visited Bajaj’s Chakan plant and became a proud owner of his very own, customised KTM 200 Duke motorcycle, with his initials printed on its top left-hand section. “I’m a motorcycle lover who was never allowed to have one. First, it was my mother who was dead against me riding a bike, and then it is my wife who has taken over. But today, with my very own KTM 200, I get to fulfill my dream of possessing one. I have been riding the bike over the last 10 months since I got it, and I must say I couldn’t be happier,” said Khan, who was in Pune on Friday to hand over the keys to the first five owners of KTM 390 Duke.

So much is his love for his bike, that he wants to use it for his upcoming movie ‘Happy New Year’. “I’m currently shooting for the movie in Dubai and want Rajiv’s permission if he could send his crew with the bike. I would really like to try out some of the stunts just the way the KTM videos show,” he added.

At the event, Khan did not lose out on the opportunity to appreciate all the workers at the Chakan plant, who he had seen toil throughout the day last year. “Someday, I would really want to go back there, un-assemble my bike and re-assemble it singlehandedly the way they do it. I really want to learn that from them,” said Khan.

First PRANA centre opened

On the first anniversary of PRANA, Khan also inaugurated the first PRANA centre at Bajaj BrandView at Wakdewadi during his recent visit to the city. PRANA, is an initiative inspired by Rajiv Bajaj, which combines the principles of homoeopathy and yoga in harmony to ensure holistic wellness.
