According to a Supreme Court ruling, it is otherwise not mandatory for the bank customers to link their Aadhaar number with their bank account.

The State Bank of India (SBI) recently informed its customers on Twitter that it was important for them to link their bank savings account with their Aadhaar card if they wanted to receive government subsidies via the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). It should be noted that seeding Aadhaar with the SBI account is required only for the beneficiaries receiving subsidies via the DBT. According to a Supreme Court ruling, it is otherwise not mandatory for the bank customers to link their Aadhaar number with their bank account.
This is what the SBI said in its tweet: "We would like to inform our customers that Aadhaar Card seeding is mandatory for those desirous of receiving any benefit or subsidy from Govt. of India through Direct Benefit Transfer."
Here are all the different ways through which you can link your Aadhaar card with your SBI Savings account:
-Visit the SBI ATM and insert/swipe the ATM cum debit card and enter the PIN code
-Choose the menu option for 'Service – Registrations'
-Select Aadhaar Registration or Inquiry, as needed, in this menu
-Select the bank account type i.e. Checking or Savings
-Enter the Aadhaar number and re-enter it when asked
-An SMS will be sent to the registered mobile number about the linking status
-Customers should first enter their login credential on www.onlinesbi.com
-Go to 'My Accounts' option and look for the option for 'Link your Aadhaar number'
-Choose the account number and enter the Aadhaar number for linking with the particular bank account. Submit once done
-The last two digits of the registered mobile number will come up on the screen
-Check status of linking on the registered mobile number
-Install the SBI Anywhere App and log in with the credentials
-Choose the option for 'Requests' followed by 'Aadhaar'
-Select the option of 'Aadhaar Linking' and pick the CIF from the list
-Put in the details of the Aadhaar number and submit it
-Check the status of linking which is sent to the registered mobile number
The customers can also visit their nearby SBI branch for linking their savings account with their Aadhaar number.
