Juhu residents along with the Airport Authority of India and the suburban collector have decided to revive the lake in the area in order to minimise the risk of flooding.

Juhu Lake is the largest catchment for rainwater in the northern suburbs, but because of massive encroachments, the size of the lake has diminished.

IIT’s Prof Kapil Gupta has submitted reports, stating the significance of the lake and the need to rescue it.

Sherley Singh, secretary of the Juhu Scheme Residents’ Association, said: “I am optimistic that the lake can be saved now — thanks to the personal interest of the collector. A bigger catchment area will prevent flooding.”

Farogh Mukadam, additional district deputy collector, who is keen on restoring the lake said, “The AAI officials have asked us to send them a letter on the environmental survey of the lake for their approval.”
