If people really did learn from their mistakes, then businessman Kumar Pujari Rao, 30, would still have his driving licence.

In the last six months, the Worli resident was booked thrice by the Mumbai traffic police and also spent seven days in jail before a Girgaum court permanently cancelled his driving licence on Friday. He was also slapped a fine of Rs2,100 by the court.

“We argued the case saying he was a habitual offender. The court took due cognisance of the three cases and punished him,” said Harish Baijal, deputy commissioner of police, traffic.  Rao committed the first offence in February, when he was caught talking on his cell phone while driving. His license was confiscated, but he never came to claim it.

On August 16, he was caught for drunken driving at Deonar. He was booked under the motor vehicle sections for drunken driving and non-possession of a valid driving license. The Girgaum court directed him to appear for a hearing in the next two days, but Rao failed to do so.  Summons was issued to Rao asking him to be present in court September 5. Rao was also caught on August 20 for drunken driving near Babulnath temple.
