The Hindu Spiritual Service and Fair (HSSF) was inaugurated in Goregaon on Friday evening in the presence of S Gurumurthy, Swami Vidyanand Saraswati ji, Swami Guruprasad, lieutenant general (retired) Sardar Gurjit Singh Dillon, Sachin Khedekar, Udit Narayan, Juhi Chawla, Dr Alka Mandke and Shaina NC. The innaugration ceremony was followed by a cultural event where 100 flute players played the Seva Antham. The six mottos of the Fair were introduced by way of a dance performance.

This three-day fair has over 130 stalls put up by various NGOs and institutions, including Sri Sri Ravishanker Foundation, Satya Sai Baba Trust and Siddhivinayak Temple Trust. S Gurumurthy, whose brainchild is HSSF, said: "The motive behind this event is to bring these institutions, temples and NGOs together, and showcase their work for the people."

Talking about "family values", one of the six mottos of HSSF, Juhi Chawla explained, "This event is very important as it sows the seeds of family values and togetherness." The other mottos of the Fair are: environment, preserving forests, women's honour, humanism and patriotism.

While Sachin Khedekar said values were at the root of everything good and that giving was something that strengthened it further, Shaina NC shared a saying that her father once told her about the art of giving – "Some people open their purses and sleep, while others open their arms and eat."

The Fair will have a musical show on Kanyavandan-Guruvandan, show-reel on five great women and five gurus, folk dance performances by college students and for-women competitions, games and a conference.
