The Bombay High Court museum, which was inaugurated in 2015 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is getting a new look and will be open for public on June 4.
The Judicial Museum, inside the Bombay High Court, displays antiques associated with the rich history of the over 150-year-old court. Officials said, “Painting of walls, polishing of the wooden flooring and some minor repair work is being carried out and will be completed by June 2. The public will be able to visit the museum from June 4.”
Advocate Rajan Jaykar, who set up the museum, said, “The room has a mock court in the centre. It depicts how courtrooms functioned in the 19th Century, even before the high court had any electricity. Cloth fans pulled by staff above the head of the judge, candle stands which used to be kept on the judge’s table and the old advocates’ chairs are also kept in the museum.”
The museum was proposed as part of the year-long celebrations in 2012 to mark the 150th anniversary of the high court, which was set up on June 26, 1862.
The museum also has other important things like the Barrister Certificate of Mahatma Gandhi, Dr BR Ambedkar and Muhammad Ali Jinnah. Judgement copies of sedition cases against Lokmanya Tilak.
