Residents of Cuffe Parade have decided to be a part of the state's drive to plant trees. The residents will be planting around 500 trees in the garden they maintain.

"The state government has taken the initiative to plant around one crore trees in the state. We feel that we should help the state in this and be a part of this drive. Hence, we have decided to plant nearly 500 trees in our garden. We believe in preserving and protecting nature," said Padmakar Nandekar, secretary general of Cuffe Parade Residents Association (CPRA).

"With the ongoing metro and other developmental work, a lot of trees have been cut. Also, there is a lot of pollution due to metro work. Hence the need to plant more trees, which will be planted near the walking track and boundary fence," said Nandekar.

The residents will be planting them in Bay View Marina, a garden that they maintain. The residents have been requesting the state government to renew the lease agreement of the garden. They want the lease to be renewed for a long-term period of at least 30 years. The lease of the garden lapsed years ago.

"We have already planted around 50 trees in the last three days. We are inviting people and residents to plant trees so that they also take care of it," said Nandekar.
