The Railways is planning to install blue-coloured indicators on the doors of the Mumbai local in a order to prevent accidents, that usually occur when commuters board or de-board a train.

The installation of blue light visual indicator has been carried out in the Kurla car shed of the Central Railways (CR). The CR has said that it will monitor the performance of the indicator, and based on the outcome and commuter feedback, a decision will be taken whether the indicators should be installed on more coaches of the Mumbai suburban local train, that carries around 75 lakh commuters daily.
The CR stated, "This device will definitely act as a psychological barrier while people try to board a moving train and also as a deterrent for the same. The visual indicator, taking connection from the guard who gives the beat to start the train, emits a beam of light over the entrance area when the train starts, and the commuter is alerted and warned of the imminent danger of being too close to the train on the platform, thereby guiding commuter to back off from the train."
In the past, there have been many incidents wherein commuters have tried to board a train at the eleventh hour ending up falling in the gap between the train and the platform. The CR also added that the initiative was being taken after Railway Minister Piyush Goyal had advised railway officials to introduce with innovative methods to improve passenger safety.
