MUMBAI
Ejaz Lakdawala has joined the league of gangsters threatening film personalities following the footsteps of Ravi Pujari. Lakdawala recently called the wife of a film producer and demanded Rs 3 crore. The anti-extortion cell of city crime branch is investigating the matter.
How did Lakdawala contact the producer?
The complainant is a residence of Millat Nagar in Andheri (W). "Few days ago, Lakdawala called the residence of the producer. His wife answered the call. Lakdawala told the woman to tell her husband to call him and give him Rs 3 crore. Lakdawala also asked them to get in touch with a person associated with a production house," said a police source.
The terrified couple then approached Oshiwara police and registered a complaint, which was then transferred to the crime branch. Sources said the producer was even now receiving threat calls from Lakdawala demanding money.
Have the police taken action?
According to sources in the police, a case of extortion has been registered in this regard against Lakdawala and one Parvez Qureshi. Cops had also decided to provide the producer security, but he has reportedly refused police protection. "We have received certain leads in the case and are making efforts to nab those involved," said a police officer.
Not the first case in Bollywood
The crime branch has already begun cracking down on Ravi Pujari gang members, several of whom have been apprehended. Pujari had, recently, issued threats to producer Ali Morani, actors Shah Rukh Khan and Boman Irani among others.
