Thane police secured the extended custody of detective Kirtesh Kavi till February 20 on Monday. Kavi was arrested by Thane crime branch on February 13 for selling CDRs (call data records) to two detectives of Globe Detective Agency, Vashi.

On February 18, Thane court remanded Kavi to two more days of police custody. Kavi, who owns Goregaon-based Cosmos Securities and Detective agency, had provided CDRs to Jignesh Makwana and Prashant Palekar of Globe Detective Agency. Cops believe that Kavi has an extended clientele. "Apart from Globe, Kavi has provided CDRs to detective agencies located in Mumbai as well as in other cities," said senior police inspector Nitin Thakare, Thane crime branch unit I.

Kavi is not a first time offender as he was caught in a similar case by Bandra police in February 2017. He is said to be former police informer who used his connections to obtain CDRs. He is the sixth detective arrested in the CDR case registered by Thane police on January 24 when they arrested four detectives of Globe detective agency namely - Makesh Pandiyan, Samaresh Jha, Makwana and Palekar.
