To promote entrepreneurship among youth, the College of Engineering, Pune, (CoEP) in association with its alumni and the industry, has started Bhau Institute for Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Leadership. The courses were started some three years ago but the building will be set up with the help of its alumni and the industry.

On Thursday, chairman and managing director of Kirloskar Oil Engines Ltd, Atul Kirloskar, donated Rs1 crore for building a modern, well-equipped auditorium at the institute. The auditorium would be named after his late grandfather and doyen of the Indian industry, SL Kirloskar.

Director of the college, Anil Sahasrabudhe said, “The building will come up adjacent to the Boat Club on the campus and it aims to create a successful model of entrepreneurship institute to change India through young entrepreneurs.”

Final-year students from all branches, besides MTech and doctoral students can take up one or two semester courses here, he added.

The institute building, which would be spread across 21,000 sq ft, will be completed within a year’s time, said Sahasrabudhe, adding that it would be a three-storied building with auditorium and classrooms on the ground floor. The first and second floor will have incubation centres, besides a few classrooms and a terrace, which will be used for various purposes.

The estimated cost of the building is around Rs5 crore, he said.
“We are already in the seventh semester,” said one of the donors and faculty for the course, Sanjay Inamdar. “So far the students were not charged for the courses, but once the building is ready they will be charged a minimum amount. The fee structure is yet to be decided.”

Inamdar got involved with the college through his schoolmate, Narendra Kale, who is also one of the faculties and donors for the project.

Sahasrabudhe said, “The institute will offer part-time, evening, weekend, three, six and 12 months’ certificate and diploma courses.” The visiting faculty including former president, APJ Abdul Kalam, technocract Sam Pitroda, and people from the industry will guide the students.

The institute will also have a reception lounge, auditorium, board room, meeting rooms, incubation centre and offices, besides library, computer lab, innovation centre, classrooms, video conferencing and state-of-the-art communications.
