In a first in several years, with teachers working on their off-days and holidays, re-evaluation results of the Summer Examinations are 96% complete and have been declared by the University of Mumbai (MU).

As per data received by the examination section, 63,305 re-evaluation results out of the total 65,222 applications have been declared already. These exams were conducted during May-June this year. These results include all streams, courses, years and categories such as ATKT and regulars.

Officials at the department give credit to the teachers who have managed to complete the assessment work in the given time. "The declaration of results used to get late earlier as teachers were new to the online assessment," said Suchitra Pagare, deputy registrar of the examination section. The online assessment system was introduced in the year 2017 by the then Vice-Chancellor Sanjay Deshmukh. In this system, instead of the regular pen-paper method, the assessment is carried in On-Screen Marking (OSM) system.

"Now the teachers know the system thoroughly and moreover, for assessment, they don't need to go to colleges or university. They can complete the assessment work in any of the Centralised Assessment Process (CAP) near them in whatever time they are comfortable in," the official added. Teachers just need their login ID and password which needs to run the OSM where they will have a bunch of scanned answer papers in their soft basket located inside the system.

Himmat Chaudhari, who heads re-revaluation, stated that the pending re-revaluation results which mostly consist of papers of Masters in Science (MSc) and Masters in Commerce (MCom) will be declared in the next 15 days. Apart from the declared and pending results, 2,187 re-revaluation results are in process which will be declared in a couple of days as per the official.

"Assessing papers are our priority — even if it's regular papers or ATKT or re-revaluation cases. We as teachers know how it is to keep waiting for the results to come out and hence, without hindrance, papers are assessed and declared as soon as possible," a teacher told this newspaper on the condition of anonymity. A team of engineers is always present in the CAP centres in case any technical errors take place in the computer or the OSM system.
