Thanekars will have to wait for another 15 days for shade at Station Area Traffic Improvement Scheme (SATIS) and return the shifted bus stops to its original place.
To speed-up the construction work at SATIS, Thane civic commissioner Sanjeev Jaiswal had ordered that a few Thane Municipal Transport (TMT) bus stops be shifted from the deck so that it's convenient to work during daytime.
The officials share that more than 80% of work has been done and they will take 15 more days to finish the canopy installation work.
The Rs12 crore project, which was started long ago, will finally see the light of the day and with the completion of this project, the commuters will be relieved.
Canopy installation work is in its final stage and residents, too, are hopeful that work will be completed.
SATIS serves as an important junction for the TMT buses as many routes originate from there. As a part of the project, the terrace area of SATIS will be covered with fabric roof which will be placed at the height of 26 meters from ground and will be supported with pillars from all sides.
The ring and pillars of installing the canopy has been completed and soon the fabric roof will also be installed. The commuters had to wait under the sun at the peak of summer in the city without the shade as the work was on and now, they hope that they don't have to wait under the showers for the buses.
Siddhesh Dalvi, a commuter, said, "If shade work is completed in the next 15 days, then it will be a big relief for us as waiting for buses at SATIS becomes tiring during monsoon and we applaud the effort of officials from the corporation."
The installation work was taken up following the request from residents to protect them from heat and rains. The TMC has taken additional effort to announce the shifting of the bus stops at SATIS deck by using loudspeakers and once the shade is ready, the shifted bus stops will be back to its original place.
