Today is Earth Day and Google has made a Doodle to wish all a Happy Earth Day 2021. Every year on April 22 Earth Day is celebrated. Today's Doodle is an animation highlighting, ''How everyone can plant the seed to a brighter future - one sapling at a time,'' Google wrote.
Google also tweeted, "With people spending more time at home, searches involving houseplants reached record highs over the past year. This Earth Day, Latinx With Plants shows us how you can liven up your space with houseplants.''
The Doodle page explains, "The planet we call home continues to nurture life and inspire wonder. Our environment works hard to sustain us, which calls for us to return the favor. Today’s video Doodle shows a variety of trees being planted within natural habitats, one of the many ways we can do our part to keep our Earth healthy for future generations.”
The Theme
This year, the theme for Earth Day 2021 is Restore Our Earth and features five primary programs: The Canopy Project, Food and Environment, Climate Literacy, the Global Earth Challenge, and The Great Global CleanUp.
Google has decided to mark the day with an animated doodle that leaves us thinking about trees.
The animated doodle shows several generations of a family planting saplings to see them grow into huge and beautiful trees in their lifetime.
Google explains that this year's annual Earth Day Doodle 'highlights how everyone can plant the seed to a brighter future - one sapling at a time!'
How it started
The idea for Earth Day was birthed by Gaylord Nelson, a US senator from Wisconsin. It was first celebrated on April 22, 1970, when around 20 million Americans took to the streets across the country for a healthy and sustainable environment.
Today, the day is recognised to emphasise the need to protect the planet.
