For her latest album, rapper Hard Kaur has recorded a number with the American hip hop band D12.
She asserts that she had an amazing time working with the band in London. However, what she missed was the chance to meet band member Eminem. “I had to sit with them for some two hours and explain the history and geography of India to come up with apt lyrics,” she laughs.
“You will get to see some really amazing jewellary in the video,” promises Hard Kaur. The video for the Desi Dance album that has been shot in London features her along with the D12 band members. She informs that she never did any makeover for the video.
Hip-hop is her forte, she reveals. “You cannot write simple lyrics for hip hop — you’ve got to be clever with words, use a lot of metaphors and puns to make it complicated,” asserts Hard Kaur.
She is looking forward to doing more of hip hop numbers with US artists. "Hip hop can be best associated with US — they have the right accent needed for the rap," she adds. Asked if she would work with Indian rappers, she sounds not-so-keen on the idea. “Rapper gaali nahi dega toh mazaa kya aaega (Expecting a rapper not to abuse means diluting the whole flavor of the performance),” she says cheekily.
