Kota dy health director tests positive for swine flu

Exposing the slackness of Kota medical and health department in controlling the menace of swine flu, joint director of medical and health, Kota division, Dr Hamendra Vijavyvergiya on Tuesday was tested positive with swine flu and is undergoing treatment. A day earlier on Monday another coaching student, an 18-year-old girl from Bikaner was tested positive for H1N1. More than 20 patients have been tested positive for H1N1 virus in Kota district since January 1 with the two women having died of swine flu.

Meanwhile, chief medical and health officer [CMHO], Kota Dr. R.K. Lawania and other senior medical officers concerned throughout the day today avoided speaking to media on swine flu and by the evening some of them even switched off their mobiles.

Confirming Vijavyvergiya having tested positive,  Dr M.P. Singh said Dr Vijavyvergiya was currently undergoing treatment in isolation at his home. When asked about the number of swine flu patients in Kota, he sought time to seek report from the medical officials concerned.

Preventive and precautionary measures are underway in the areas where swine flu infected patients were detected, he further said, adding the medical officers of  the coaching institutes have been asked for the screening of the students with  H1N1.

Three more patients have today been tested positive with swine flu taking the total number to 21 till today, said a medical official. “We have been strictly asked not to share the information on swine flu with media,” the medical officer said. When nodal officer Ramjilal was in the evening contacted for confirmation of number of swine flu patients, his mobile was switched off.  

The flu has so far in Kota district claimed the lives of two women identified as 70-year-old Kantibai, a resident of Digod village the district and Lalita Mathur, 70, of Borekheda area of Kota city.
