A 24-hour transport strike has been called in Tripura tomorrow jointly by Tripura Motor Shramik Union (TMSU) and Tripura Auto-Richshaw Workers Union (TAWU) to protest the hike in the prices of petroleum products.
General secretary of TMSU, Bibhu Roy and president of TAWU, Chanchal Majumder, in a press conference today said, "The wheels of vehicles will not move in protest against the hike in the prices of petroleum products."
Ruling CPI-M has supported the transport strike.
The hike in their prices would further increase the prices of the essential commodities and the states in the North-East would suffer most because of their location in the backward region, the party said in a statement.
