Reacting to the disruption in Parliament, Communist Party of India Marxist CPI (M) leader Brinda Karat on Thursday said it was extremely unfortunate that such an incident had taken place, and blamed the wrong policies of the Congress in context of Andhra Pradesh for it.
"It is very unfortunate that such a thing has happened. It has raised a question for the people that if today such incidents take place in Parliament, who will be responsible for it?" asked Karat.
"The wrong policies of the Congress, in the context of Andhra Pradesh, have led to this. Therefore, the Congress is primarily responsible for it," she said.
"The politics behind this issue itself is wrong. And, our party has said from the start that Andhra Pradesh should stay together. The Congress with its narrow thinking, and even the BJP, is indirectly responsible for the chaos," she added.
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Ravi Shankar Prasad on Thursday said the government needed to ensure the proper functioning of Parliament.
"There are bills that need to be passed, but for that the house has to run properly. Unfortunately, Congress MPs and ministers are obstructing the functioning of the house. That is regrettable; the government must ensure the running of the house," he said.
Parliament proceedings witnessed an ugly turn when a few legislators resorted to acts of aggression as the Telangana Bill was introduced in the Lok Sabha for a discussion.
The Lok Sabha session ended abruptly after an expelled Congress MP from Andhra Pradesh used pepper spray to blind others, while another parliamentarian flung a computer, leading to absolute mayhem in the House.
Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar expressed her dismay at the sudden turn of events, and said that it is a blot on parliamentary democracy.
As soon as the bill was introduced in the Lok Sabha by Home Minister Shinde, two sets of MPs - for and against Telangana - rushed into the Well of the House.
Two groups of protesters also clashed outside Parliament and a heavy contingent of police arrived to remove them as the volatile political atmosphere spilled onto the streets.
Earlier, Parliament was adjourned till noon following an uproar over the demand for a separate Telangana state and other issues.
