Why Bangalore drivers are going on strike?
The Federation of Karnataka State Private Transport Association, which has 32 member unions, has announced the strike. The association has asked the state government to comply with 30 demands, which include prohibiting bike taxis, providing financial assistance to drivers, and integrating private buses into the Shakti program.

The private players in the transportation industry have been claiming that they are being seriously hit by the Shakti scheme, which provides free bus travel for women in Karnataka. They had met with the transport minister and requested that private buses be added to the Shakti program and compensated for their losses.

Karnataka transport minister Ramalinga Reddy said that he will bring attention to the matters concerning protestors and will discuss it with the CM.

Will schools be opened in Bengaluru due to the strike?
Despite extending its support for the bandh, the Associated Management of Primary and Secondary Schools in Karnataka has not proclaimed a vacation for its member institutions.

In a statement, Association general secretary D Shashi Kumar said, “As some schools have declared a holiday, especially in the Central Business District area, it has created confusion among parents. I would like to make it clear that there is no general holiday for all the schools. Schools associated with private vehicles for commuting have declared a holiday.”

Parents are requested to make arrangements for the pick-up and drop-off of their children.
