A 52-year-old US national was allegedly molested by an NRI techie at a five-star hotel in Lutyens' Delhi, following which he was arrested, police said on Friday. He has been sent to judicial custody by court for two weeks.
According to Additional Commissioner of Police (New Delhi) BK Singh, the woman had checked into the hotel on January 6 where she befriended Anmol Singh Kharbanda (25). On January 8, the two had drinks. She alleged that he offered her laced drinks and tried to grope her, the police said.
After the incident, the woman checked out of the hotel and shifted to one in Gurgaon. On January 10, she approached the police with a complaint, following which a case was registered and the accused arrested, the police said.
According to reports, Kharbanda has claimed to be an contractual employee for IT giant Google. However, Google spokesperson told Hindustan Times that they are unable to verify that the accused ever worked for them. The person used to work in California.
“We have been in contact with the woman guest, a formal complaint with the authorities was also facilitated by the hotel team. This matter is now under police investigation...Safety and security of our guests and associates is paramount,” the hotel spokesperson was quoted by HT as saying. The incident happened around 10 PM on Monday.
