Schools reopen in UP, Punjab, Sikkim from today; read these guidelines before sending kids for classes

The online class will continue along with offline and no student will be forced to come to school. Parents will need to give written consent for their child to reach school.

As part of Unlock 5.0, schools for classes 9th to 12th are opening in Uttar Pradesh from Monday (October 19). Strict guidelines have been issued by the state authorities in this regard and everyone has been asked to follow it. The schools will open in a phased manner after remaining closed since March due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In the schools in UP, classes will be held in two shifts. In the first shift, students of class 9 and 10 will be taught, while in the second shift students of class 11 and 12 will be classed. In the first shift, classes will be held from 8:50 am to 3:50 pm, while the second shift will be taught from 12:20 pm to 3:20 pm.

Notably, the online class will continue along with offline and no student will be forced to come to school. Parents will need to give written consent for their child to reach school. In any class, 50 percent students will be called on one day, while the remaining 50 percent students will be called for class the next day. No child will go to school without a mask.

It is necessary for children to wear full sleeve condition or T-shirt, full pants and shoes with socks. Any student, teacher or staff with symptoms of cough and cold will not be allowed to come to the school. 

Social distancing has to be followed during classes as well. The schools have been instructed to ensure that the students sit at a sufficient distance from each other.

Instructions have been given for daily cleaning and sanitization of the entire classroom and school premises, along with furniture, stationery, canteen, lab.

Currently, three states have put their name in the hat for opening schools from October 19. They will be opening up schools in areas outside containment zones.

Other than Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Sikkim have allowed will be reopening schools.

In Punjab, schools for students of Classes 9 to 12 will reopen in the areas outside containment zones in the state from October 19. Schools will open for three hours a day and only students of Classes 9 to 12 will be allowed entry to take physical classes.

In Sikkim, the government has decided to reopen all schools from October 19 in a graded manner. The winter holidays will be done away with completely this year, and classes will be held six days a week, with Saturday being a half day. All notified government holidays, however, will be in place.
