One more person was today arrested by CB-CID in connection with the sexual assault and death of a 12-year-old girl student in Kanpur, a senior police officer said.

"Santosh Kumar Singh alias Mishraji was arrested by the CB-CID from Lucknow in connection with Divya sexual assault and death case of Kanpur," special director general of police (law and order) Brij Lal told reporters.

He said Mishra was accountant at Gyan Bharati School where Divya was sexually assaulted allegedly by the manager's younger son on September 27 last.

"Mishra has been charged under sections 304 (culpable homicide), 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of offence), 202 (intentional omission to give information of offence by person bound to inform) and 419 (punishment for cheating by personation) of the IPC," the officer said.

The Uttar Pradesh government has already suspended three police officers besides ordering inquiry against the then DIG of Kanpur Prem Prakash in connection with the case.

The state government has also informed Medical Council of India about the conduct of a private doctor Abha Mishra, who had medically examined the victim.

The incident occurred on September 27 when Anushka alias Divya, a fourth standard student of Gyan Bharati, was sexually assaulted within the school premises.

The girl was sent back home along with two maids and her mother was informed at her workplace. Divya died in hospital that evening. The CB-CID probe was ordered on October 23.

"The CB-CID in its report has found school manager C P Varma, his two sons Mukesh and Piyush guilty and shortcomings in the police action," state cabinet secretary Shashnak Shekhar Singh had earlier told reporters.

The accused trio has been put behind bars. A DNA examination during the probe suggested the involvement of Piyush, the prime accused, in the assault, and a charge sheet was filed against him in a special court last week.
