Despite a high-wire drama over the no-confidence motion against the BJP-led NDA government, the proceedings of the Lok Sabha was disrupted for the tenth day in a row on Friday with the AIADMK and the RJD protesting over Cauvery water issue and the inclusion of the banking scam in the proceedings.

Clamour for no confidence motion against the Modi government picked up strength on Friday with several opposition parties coming in support of the two separate motions moved by the YSR Congress and Telugu Desam Party in the Lok Sabha.

Beaten in the race to submit no confidence notice by rival Jaganmohan Reddy's YSR Congress, the TDP made amends by pulling out support as an NDA ally and thereafter immediately submitting similar notice on Friday. Main opposition parties Congress, TMC and CPI (M) immediately pledged support to the move.

The disruptions in the House ensured that the no-confidence motion, moved for the first time against the present government, could not be taken up for want of order in the Lok Sabha.

In receipt of the two motions, Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan appealed the agitating members, mainly AIADMK MPs, to go back on their seats so she could count the required 50 MPs.

"I am duty bound to bring the notices before the House. Unless the House is in order, I will not be in a position to count the 50 Members who have to stand in their assigned places so that I can ascertain as to whether the leave has been granted or not," she said. The Congress decried the decision accusing the government of deliberately staging the protests to save itself from embarrassment.

With no sign of order getting restored the Speaker adjourned the house till Monday. Sources, however, said that the government, keen on avoiding the motion, had given the impression of adjourning the House sine die once the Finance Bill and the Budget was passed by the House.
