Amidst the debate at Rajya Sabha over the alleged recommendations of Shiksha Sanskriti Utthan Nyas regarding removal of thoughts of Rabindranath Tagore, and parts of autobiography of MF Hussain from NCERT books, the Bengal chapter of the Nyas denied any such recommendation, and said they would take legal action against media houses which had published it.

"Some of the media houses had printed all false news, we have sent them legal notices. We never recommended any alteration of Rabindranath Tagore. We respect and honour him. Again, we have been tagged as the education wing of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) which is again not correct," said Sushanta Sengupta, state president, Shiksha Sanskriti Utthan Nyas. However, during the press conference several state BJP leaders were seen sitting among the audience.

Sengupta, however, admitted that the portion which talks about the death of 2000 people in the Gujarat riots has been asked to do away with. "It will create a negative psychological effect on the children's mind. Similarly there has been the use of the word 'danga' (riot) too many times. That too had been asked to avoid," he added.

The Nyas also alleges that history had been misrepresented. 'For instance Mughal kings like Aurangzeb had been portrayed as benevolent who built temples and donated a lot of money to temples whereas Rani Lakshmi Bai of Jhansi has been portrayed as someone who had accepted the leadership of the Revolt of 1857 under pressure from public, and the contribution of Shivaji has been compiled in just two sentences. Under such circumstances there is an immediate need to rectify these books for the future generation of the country," the statement added.
