Love jihad: NIA claims two women trapped, converted

The agency says they are probing 94 inter religion marriages, and in PFI is suspected to play a role in 23 of them

In an ongoing probe into Love Jihad issue, the National Investigative Agency (NIA) claimed that two women have recorded their statements claiming they were trapped, married, and later converted into different religion. A senior NIA officer said these women said they were lured, married, and then brainwashed into converting to Islam. In both the cases, NIA suspects the role of Popular Front of India (PFI). The agency said they are probing 94 inter religion marriages, and in PFI is suspected to play a role in 23 of them.

Athira alias Ayesha from Kasaragod and Athira from Palakkad have both told NIA they were lured.

Athira alias Ayesha had recently reconverted to Hinduism. She told the agency after reconversion that she was influenced by Zakir Naik's videos on Islam and also after observing her Muslim friends. She also said she was brainwashed.

The second Athira from Palakkad eloped with a Muslim man and converted to marry him.

The agency is probing the role of Sainaba,the president of PFI's women's wing National Women's Front, in the recent cases, like Athira and Hadiya. NIA suspects PFI fronts like Satyasarini and National Women's Frontare are responsible for mentoring girls like Hadiya and Athira.

NIA has also sought details of 94 inter religion marriages that took place in 2015. Kerala government has opposed NIA investigation in this case, but also handed over the cases to NIA.
