Government should have taken action earlier in corporate espionage case: Manish Tewari

 Stating that the central government was accountable for all the misdemeanours of the past nine months, Congress leader Manish Tewari on Saturday said the government should have taken action earlier in the suspected corporate espionage case.

"In nine months, this government has not been able to get a hang of governance. This government is accountable for all the misdemeanours and indiscretions which have taken place in the past nine months. If there was corporate espionage going on why was this government permitting it. They should have taken action earlier," senior Congress leader Manish Tewari told ANI here.

"Even now when the Delhi police has acted, this probe should not stop with some low level executives. If at all, the names which are coming out in the public space, those companies are really involved then the highest assurance of those companies should be brought to justice," he added.

Earlier on Thursday, Delhi Police Commissioner B.S. Bassi confirmed that several people had been arrested for their alleged involvement in the leaking of classified documents from the Petroleum Ministry. The Police Commissioner informed that those arrested were temporary multi-tasking staff in Shastri Bhawan and had been indulging in such activities for some time, using fake identities to enter the building.

Two former journalists and five senior energy company employees are also among those arrested.
