Defying Rahul Gandhi's diktat, many office bearers want tickets

The reformatory measure of barring the Congress party’s office bearers from contesting the election seems to be of no relevance with several office bearers and even the presidents of various wings running pillars to post to secure party ticket for the Assembly elections. However, despite projecting themselves as prospective candidates, not all are expected to qualify for the tickets.

Rumours are strong in the party circles that even the PCC chief may contest elections from any of Malpura, Mandawa or Phulera constituencies. When asked whether he will contest the elections a few days back PCC chief Chandrabhan had said, “Who doesn’t want to contest elections? But it’s up to the party high command.”

Shakuntla Rawat, president women Congress wing has staked her claim from Bansur seat, which she lost in the last elections. Rawat spends most of her time in her constituency rather than in her wing.

Youth Congress president Ashok Chanda has claimed form Hindauli constituency and NSUI president Mukesh Bhakar is pursuing for the Ladnu seat. Highly placed sources informed former had some chances but Rahul Gandhi doesn’t want president of frontline organisations to contest Assembly elections.

Vice-president of party Rajive Arora has projected himself from Adarsh Nagar and Malviya Nagar seats and DCC Jaipur president Salim Kagzi is pushing hard the candidature of his son Amin Kagzi from Kishanpol seat.

Among general secretaries Suresh Chaudhary, Sushil Sharma and Neeraj Dangi too are trying to qualify for party tickets. Playing safe and stay away from controversy, Suresh Chaudhary had even resigned from post of Seva Dal chief a few days back but his resignation has not been accepted.
