COVID-19 update: Weekend curfew imposed in Uttarakhand's Dehradun, what's allowed, what's not

The Uttarakhand government has said that except for ministers and staff, entry of people will be restricted to the state secretariat.

In view of the rising cases of COVID-19, the Uttarakhand government on Saturday (April 17) revised the night curfew timings in the state.

A night curfew has been imposed from 9 pm to 5 am in all districts of Uttarakhand, state chief secretary Om Prakash said on Saturday (April 17). Until now, a night curfew was in effect in the state between 10:30 pm to 5 am.

Om Prakash also announced that a weekend curfew will be imposed in Dehradun Municipal Corporation areas from Sunday (April 18).

The government has also said that except for ministers and staff, entry of people will be restricted to the state secretariat.

"Journalists are also not allowed to enter the secretariat," the order said. 

Meanwhile, the schools in Dehradun, Nainital, Haridwar, Udham Singh Nagar and Kotdwar Bhabar districts in Uttarakhand will remain closed till April 30.

COVID-19 guidelines in place in Dehradun:

-Number of people present in all religious, political and social events as well as other ceremonies including marriages shall not exceed 200.

-Public vehicles (bus, Vikram, auto rickshaw etc.) will operate with 50 % passenger capacity.

-All cinema halls, restaurants and bars will operate with 50 % capacity.

-All gyms will be operated with 50 %capacity.

-Coaching institutes operating in all districts will be completely closed.

-All swimming pools, spas will be completely closed.

During curfew the following will be allowed:

-Esssential services will remain open.

-Movement of persons and goods for emergency operations on national and state highways.

-Relaxation for passengers going to their destination after getting off buses, trains and airplanes.

-Exemption from restrictions will be provided in the prescribed time for movement from banquet halls / community halls / religious places for wedding, social and religious events.

-Exemption for workers of institutions in which work is done in night shifts.

According to the Union Health Ministry, there are 12,484 active COVID-19 cases in Uttarakhand.
