The Congress on Tuesday raked up the government order of 1948 when then Home Minister Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel had called to ban the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).

Deputy leader of opposition in Rajya Sabha Anand Sharma at an event in Pune stated that while the statue of Patel will be inaugurated later in this month, the government should also placed this order written on bronze plaque to let people know what thinking Patel had about them.

The statue located near Sardar Sarovar dam in Gujarat is considered to be world's largest statue and it will be inaugurated by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi on October 31. However, before the inauguration, politics over the statue has already begun.

Sharma took a dig at BJP over the issue of the statue where he said, "The government has come up with the statue of Sardar Patel which is being called as a 'Statue of Unity'. However, the statue has been made in China."

"While the statue will be inaugurated, the government also should install a bronze plaque of the written order to impose ban (on RSS) which was given by Sardar Patel on January 4, 1948, after the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi. The plaque at the statue will tell entire country about Sardar Patel's thoughts about them," he said.

Sharma also accused BJP of carrying out major 'cover up operation' in the country to hide details of the Rafale deal. "It was Modi's personal decision to exclude HAL from the contract and award the same contract to Reliance. The government now has got into a major cover up operation to hide the Rafale scam and therefore we are appealing the Supreme Court o sealed all the files and notings in connection with the deal," he said.

The Congress leader also criticised the Prime minister for not speaking over the important issues likes rising fuel prices, weakening of Indian rupee and ongoing MeToo movement. He said, "The PM speaks a lot but he does not speak on the issues which are of national concern. We have lost all the hopes from him but as an opposition party we have to perform our duties of asking him questions."

Regarding the MeToo movement, Sharma said, "The silence of the PM on this issue who claims to be concerned about safety of women of the country is unacceptable. He should have reassured the country but people are still waiting to hear from him."
