An antiques dealer was murdered and his body dumped in neighbouring Rajasthan by the killers. The city's crime branch cops, while investigating the case of Shantilal Patel going missing, unearthed a horrific crime.

Patel's body was found after the perpetrators of the foul deed confessed to having killed him for failing to deliver to them 'X-ray goggles', which he allegedly had in his possession!

When Shantilal Patel (40), a resident of Bhagwati township, Noblenagar road, Sardarnagar, did not return home for a few days, his wife followed legal procedures and registered him missing with the Sardarnagar police. She, however, was absolutely clueless about the gruesome treatment meted out to her husband by a group of irate customers.
With no news of her husband's whereabouts, Patel's wife approached city police commissioner Sudhir Sinha and filed an application seeking his help.

Sinha ordered Crime Branch PSIs MC Sangtiani and YR Pathan to investigate the case.

The investigation led the cops to one Rajendra, a close friend of Shantilal, who told them about a scuffle involving Patel and some of his clients.

Based on this information, the cops picked up antiques dealer and English teacher Devendra Jadhav (41) a  resident of Dadra & Nagar Haveli; Jitendra 'Jitu' Patel (27), a farmer from Panchmahals; Bhikha Patel aka Bharat (29) a resident of Ranip area and Mustufa Vohra (35) an electrician from Valsad.

Interrogation of the men revealed that Shantilal, originally from Panchmahals district, had reportedly offered them a chance to own 'X-ray goggles' with which, they said, one can see through a person's clothes!

The customers had agreed to buy these goggles from him for a whopping Rs3 crore and paid him advance of Rs20,000.
However, as time passed, the customers started getting anxious when they did not receive the goggles.

They started threatening Patel as he kept delaying the item's delivery. Finally, on July 22, feeling they had been cheated, the group nabbed Shantilal near GIDC, Naroda and took him to Parth Residency hotel in a car.

There they tied him up and beat him to extract information about the whereabouts of the goggles. After two days of such torture, the group was taking him elsewhere while still roughing him up in a car, when Shantilal succumbed fatally to the torture.

The baffled men, who were driving a Maruti Swift car, then decided to dump his body in the neighbouring state of Rajasthan. After recording this shocking confession, the cops went to the area under Dhambola police station jurisdiction where the body had been dumped. The men had grotesquely disfigured the face and body so as to avoid its recognition.

What's even worse, the rotting body had been partially consumed by dogs in the area. The body was only identified when Shanitlal's brother Raiji Patel identified it.

After the confession, and the body's identification, the cops registered a case against them and seized the Swift car used to transport the body along with five mobile phones from the accused.
