AMC’s demolition to free parking space on CG Road

The countdown has begun for one of the poshest localities of the city — CG Road.

The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) estate department is firm in its decision to free some parking space on CG Road after they pulled down several illegal constructions at Achernagar in Sabarmati.

The AMC officials sought permission for police protection to start the demolition on the CG Road from Wednesday, but did not get confirmation till late on night. “We will start the demolition on CG Road by Wednesday, if we get the police protection. There are around 52 buildings with illegal constructions but we will start with two big shopping complexes,” said a senior official in the estate department.

The prime motive is to take up those buildings which have encroached upon the parking space, he added.

On Tuesday, the AMC officials cleared around 700 ft space in Achernagar as it pulled down 22 residential and 16 non-residential illegal constructions. The official said there were two buildings with two-storey construction.
