Almora Lok Sabha constituency in Uttarakhand is one of the five Parliamentary constituencies in the state which came into existence in 2000. All five seats in the state voted in the first phase of the general election on April 11.

Formed in 1957, the Almora Lok Sabha constituency is made up of 14 assembly segments across four districts - Almora, Bageshwar, Champawat and Pithoragarh. The seat has been reserved for candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste after 2008 delimitation. Almora is the only reserved seat in the state.

Ajay Tamta of the BJP won the seat in 2014 when he defeated Pradeep Tamta of the Congress by 96,000 votes. Pradeep Tamta is the only Congress candidate to win from here since 1991 when the saffron party first got hold of it. In the first election held in the reserved seat, he had defeated Ajay Tamta of the BJP by less than 7,000 votes. He, however, lost the seat in 2014.

Former Chief Minister Harish Rawat won from here for three consecutive terms and held the seat from 1980 and 1991. Between 1996 and 2009, it was held by Bachi Singh Rawat of the BJP.

Voter turnout was recorded in 52.41 per cent in 2014 polls, which was slightly higher than 45.47 per cent turnout recorded in 2009.

In the upcoming elections, sitting MP Ajay Tamta will face Congress' Pradeep Tamta. Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) has fielded Sunder Dhoni in this reserved seat.

Almora Lok Sabha constituency comprises the fourteen legislative assembly segments: Almora, Dwarahat, Jageshwar, Ranikhet, Salt and Someshwar of Almora district; Bageshwar and Kapkot of Bageshwar district; Champawat and Lohaghat of Champawat district; Dharchula Didihat, Gangolihat, Pithoragarh of Pithoragarh district.

The polling in Almora will be held in the first phase of Lok Sabha elections on April 11. The results of the Lok Sabha election 2019 will be declared on May 23.
