Asaduddin Owaisi, president of All India Majlis-E-Ittehadul Muslimeen on Monday dissolved the core committee he had formed for elections in Maharashtra. The committee of nine people was for rest of Maharashtra - Mumbai not included. It comes shortly after the party performed poorly as compared to its expectations.

While in his letter, Owaisi said that the purpose of the committee was over since it was formed only for corporation elections in Maharashtra and that all had done good work and that they continue to do the same, members of the party said that action was due because performance was far below expectation.

Akbaruddin Owaisi who looks after Mumbai will also be taking action very soon said a party worker. Ahmed Balala, who is incharge of the state from party was not available for comment. The core committee of nine people had among others, AIMIM's state president Syed Moin besides those from Pune, Nanded, Auragnabad and Nagpur. As of now Moin continues to be the president of the party.

"In case of some people there were serious corruption charges," said a party member. The party had expected a good show in Mumbai but they ended up getting only two seats in the area. In case of Mumbra too they were limited to as many. It did have some solace in Sholapur and Pune where they performed reasonably well and opened and account. In all the party won 26 seats in all corporation elections.

"The party is very clear that people will have to perform or perish. We are now looking at 2019 elections as our next target," said the party member.

"As of now, action taken is only for rest of Maharashtra. Obviously, the results in Mumbai were also not satisfactory like in the rest of Maharashtra. The party may be thinking of some changes. That could happen very soon," said Imtiaz Jaleel
