His health hasn’t been all that he’d want, but Shashi Kapoor is determined to come and collect his Lifetime Achievement award personally at the MAMI film festival on October 29.

“He is very ill. We know that given his condition, he probably won’t be able make it to the venue. But we have spoken to him on a couple of occasions earlier and he hasn’t said no. Going by the grit and tenacity he has shown, we just might see him there,” says S Narayan, the director of the film festival.

Meanwhile Shashi Kapoor’s personal manager, Selvim, told After Hrs that the actor has stopped seeing visitors. “He is not keeping well and is bound to a wheelchair now. His health has deteriorated over the past one month as he is suffering from multiple ailments. His family members are always around him,” he says.

Unconfirmed reports say the legendary actor has recently been diagnosed with a lung infection that worsened his condition. “He is unable to speak now. There is a doctor who is attending him 24X7. He might be shifted into a hospital if things worsen,” a source said.

But given the resilience Shashi has shown throughout his life, the organisers
of MAMI are keeping their fingers crossed and their hopes high.
