Troubled star Lindsay Lohan has received yet another blow — she has been dropped from playing porn performer Linda Lovelace in a new movie.

Inferno director Matthew Wilder said he had been forced to drop the troubled actress from his film because of "the impossibility of insuring her".

The director's decision came just three months after Wilder promised to stand by Lohan and rubbished reports that she was being replaced.

At that point in time, the director said, “Even if Angelina Jolie wanted the role we would be sticking with Lindsay Lohan.”

Lohan, 24, had been set to play Lovelace in Inferno and was originally supposed to start filming this month.

But Wilder has confirmed that he had withdrawn Lohan's offer after a Los Angeles judge ordered the actress to complete an extended stay in rehab.

"We are withdrawing our offer from Lindsay Lohan," the director said. "We have stuck by Lindsay very patiently for a long time with a lot of love and support. Ultimately the impossibility of insuring her — and some other issues — have made it impossible for us to go forward," the Daily Mail quoted him as saying.

Lohan is currently undergoing treatment for substance abuse at the Betty Ford rehab clinic in Rancho Mirage, California.

Asked about being dropped from the Inferno role, Lohan's spokesperson said, "Lindsay is dedicated to her recovery and together they decided to move forward without her."
