In his autobiography 'An Unsuitable Boy' Karan Johar wrote about his desire to become a father inter alia other things. At the launch of the book he had said,"I would like to be a parent. I don't know in what capacity, I don't know how it's going to happen, I don't have answers to those questions. But I do feel the need because I have love to offer."

Cut to today, Johar has become a father of two. According to media reports, civic officials from Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation have confirmed that the births of two babies, one girl and one boy, were registered at the health department as children of the film producer and director.

The twins that were born via surrogacy and were reportedly delivered at the Masrani Hospital in Andheri, Mumbai on February 7, 2017. While Johar has not revealed the names of the twins yet, according to a TOI report, an official at the BMC health department said that the birth certificates have 'baby girl' and 'baby boy' on them. However, speculations are riding high and according to sources, the boy has been named 'Yash' after Johar's father the late film producer and director Yash Johar while the little girl is believed to have been names Roohi which is an anagram of Hiroo, Johar's mother.

Johar is not the first in the film fraternity to have opted for becoming a parent via surrogacy. His close friend Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan and wife Gauri also became parents to AbRam, who was also born at the Masrani Hospital. Earlier last year Tusshar Kapoor too became a parent via IVF (in-vitro fertilization) surrogacy to a baby boy Laksshya. In 2011 Aamir Khan and wife Kiran Rao had announced that they have been blessed with a baby boy 'Azad Rao Khan' through a surrogate mother using IVF technique.

Surrogacy has been a hot topic of discussion in the Parliament in the recent times. The Centre recently framed guidelines for it. The draft bill, Surrogacy (Regulation) Bill was introduced in the Lok Sabha in November 2016. It bans commercial surrogacy wherein no payment can be given to or accepted by the surrogate. It also restricts singles, of foreign or Indian origin from surrogacy.

And while Johar has not commented on the topic to the media, we are thrilled about the news and wish him a blessed fatherhood.
