Aside from the awe-inducing gowns that the stars sported at the recently held Oscars ceremony, what also stood out during the night was the exquisite hair and make-up. From stylish updos to cat-lined eyes, berry stained pouts and luminescent skin — the bevy of beauties who walked the red carpet showed it all. While getting all dolled up is not an everyday affair, there are some beauty tips one can take from the celebs.

In your 20s…
Get the pony right: Dakota Johnson showed just how to rock a ponytail for a formal event. The Fifty Shades star went for beautiful wispy bangs to frame her face and pulled back the rest of her locks in a mid-range pony. The wavy texture added a carefree touch while the hair style made her look young yet red carpet worthy. Dakota finished off the look with a red cherry pout to match her Saint Laurent gown.
Go for a coral pout: Emma Stone may have channelled a 1920's look with her half up wavy do but it's her coral lip colour that grabbed our attention. The shade works amazingly well on most skin tones and nothing spells summer better than a coral colour. Emma also shows how to nail a bold pout without going overboard with colour.

In your 30s…
Sport a beachy glow: Reese Witherspoon may have kept her overall hair and make-up simple but she wore foundation a shade darker than her usual tone that gave her that vacation glow. By mixing a bit of bronzer and foundation she was able to recreate a beach look. By using an illuminator and blush one can highlight the cheekbones to add a fresh, radiant touch.

Nail the classic cat eye: Marion Cotillard rarely disappoints and this time too she looked great in a twisted low bun and a classic cat eye look. She kept the rest of her face make-up basic with a fresh pink pout. It was just her blue eyes that were highlighted with the classic liner look.

In your 40s…
Find the perfect berry shade: Naomi Watts went a little goth for the award night with her wavy lob and dark make-up. Her berry lip was the perfect colour to offset her black and grey gown. While many shy away from this shade, the perfect berry lip colour looks lovely and is a great alternative if you're not confident about red.

A chignon for all ages: Cate Blanchett proves you're never too old to flaunt a bun. She went for a Grecian style one that showed much volume from the front before finishing into a neat chignon at the back. Minimal eye make-up and a nude-pink lip colour completed her look. We love how she continues to experiment with her mane.
