After doing the rounds of 13 international film festivals and winning six awards, Tara — The Journey of Love & Passion is gearing up for a July 12 release.

Tara’s journey of self discovery begins with Amitabh Bachchan’s unmistakable baritone reciting lines from a Tanveer Qazi poem, urging the protagonist, a banjaran girl, to fight against oppression.

“We finished the recording in an hour and his voiceover could lead to a social awakening,” says producer-director Kumar Raj.

The film about women empowerment is dedicated to the girl who was gang-raped in Delhi in a moving bus last December. It has found support in the victim’s boyfriend, Awnindra Pratap Pandey, who was an eye-witness to the attack.

He was present at the press conference in Delhi and flew down to Mumbai for three days during the promotions.

Rekha Rana, who plays the lead informs, “Just before the interval, Amitji returns with another inspiring voiceover, then brings the one-woman’s struggle for justice to a close with more lines from the poem.”

Raj reveals, “We have tied up with Pandey’s trust instituted in Jyoti’s memory and after the film’s release have committed to building a Shiv temple in Safala where the film was shot.”
