The total number of admissions in Kendriya Vidyalaya (KV) schools made under the discretionary quota of the Human Resource Development Ministers have gone up from 450 admissions in 2014-15 to 8844 in the year 2016-17. While the increase in numbers of admissions has been significant, the ministry said that it is because of huge demand from the public across the country.

The HRD Ministry in a written reply in Parliament said, “As per the meeting of Board Of Governors of Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS), the special dispensation quota for HRD Minister and Chairman KYS, is 450 seats annually.”

The ministry later agreed that seats given under the quota have sometimes exceeded the limits due to huge demand from public across the country for admission in KVs.

“The admissions granted in excess of the limits under the Special Dispensation Quota were reported ratified by the BoG of KVS,” it added in its reply in Parliament.

The total number of admissions made under the discretionary quota of HRD Minister during the last three years is -- 450 in 2014-15, 3587 in the year 2015-16 and 8844 in the year 2016-17.

Under the special dispensation quota for parliamentarians in KVs, each member can refer upto 10 cases for admission in an academic year. These admissions are over and above the class strength.
