Post the Nirbhaya gangrape and many other incidents of crimes against women in the Capital, to ensure that travelling is made safe, the Delhi Police have launched the new avtaar of the earlier launched 'Himmat' application.
The application, which was initially women-centric, is now available for the service of the all the citizens, including minors and senior citizens.
From a new logo to traffic notifications to social messages, the new 'Himmat Plus' comes with a wide range of features for multiple users. The application allows a user to scan the QR code when they board a taxi. The moment the QR code is scanned, the details of the driver pop up on your phone screen allowing you to cross check the details and access in case of emergency.
As of now the taxi's and drivers at the airport and at selected Metro stations (five to begin with) have been verified by the police.
Each driver was provided a QR card to be placed in their vehicle.
Explaining how they would take the application forward Sanjay Beniwal, Special Commissioner of Police, Women Safety and Airport Modernization said, "The idea is to make the application more dynamic, interactive and user-friendly.
The application was launched on January 1, 2015, but did not attract many users. It was just considered to be an emergency safety application and had only 44,785 registered users.
Later, there were issues which emerged as the residents of Delhi could only register and the registration process was also not user-friendly. The application could only be used in English.
When the Delhi Police realised that the original Himmat App could still be improved upon, an audit was conducted which revealed that the interface of the App was not sufficiently user-friendly, it was not bilingual, the app was not comprehensive and registration process was cumbersome.
