South Delhi: Body found floating in pond, post-mortem report awaited

According to the police, the deceased was identified as Balwant Ram (38), a resident of Uttarakhand's Chamoli district.

A body of a-38-year-old chef was found floating in a pond inside the Golf course premises near South Delhi's Dhaula Kuan area on Tuesday morning. Prima facie it appears to be an accident as the deceased was suspected to be drunk at the time of the incident, however, police are waiting for the autopsy reports.

According to the police, the deceased was identified as Balwant Ram (38), a resident of Uttarakhand's Chamoli district.

Devendar Arya, DCP, South West said that "He was residing along with his family in Delhi Sagarpur area. He was working as a chef in the canteen of the Golf course. On Monday night, he left the canteen at about 10.30 pm but did not reach his house in Sagarpur. Following which the deceased's family tried to search for him but he was missing until Tuesday morning when a sweeper working in the area informed the police about the body floating.

Police official said that a PCR call was received on Tuesday morning at around 9.30 am regarding a body found floating in the golf course pond. A police team reached the spot and fished out the body. The body was later sent for autopsy.

Police said that it might be a case of an accident. The deceased Balwant might have consumed alcohol on Monday night and slipped into the pond.

The investigating officials are awaiting medical examination report to ascertain the presence of liquor in the body and have been scanning CCTV footage for a clue. However, the family members suspect a foul play in the case.
