After the initial deadline of the first week of October, Delhi Metro has rescheduled to start services between Dilshad Garden in Delhi, and New Bus Stand in Ghaziabad from November. Trial runs on the 9.41 km-long section of the Delhi Metro's Red Line, started last month. Once it becomes operational, this will be Metro's second foray into the satellite town in Uttar Pradesh.

A meeting was held between Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) and Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) where the former gave a deadline of November for completing the trial runs and commissioning the corridor.

During the trial runs, the trains are being assessed on various parameters like its interaction with physical infringements (civil structure). "This is to make certain that the train does not encounter any physical blockage during its movement on the track," a DMRC official said. The entire signaling system will also be subjected to rigorous testing,\" the official said. Additionally, the response of the train at different speeds, its braking system and the interconnection with the Operations Control Centre (OCC) will also be monitored during the trials. The behaviour of the track system and the overhead electrification (OHE) system will also be checked repeatedly during all the trials.

This entirely elevated section will have eight stations: Shahid Nagar, Raj Bagh, Rajendra Nagar, Shyam Park, Mohan Nagar, Arthala, Hindon River Station and New Bus Adda. This section is an extension of the presently operational Dilshad Garden-Rithala corridor (Line 1) also called the Red Line.

The metro line will be of great convenience to commuters who have to depend on last mile connectivity to reach Sahibabad from Dilshad Garden. It will also improve connectivity.
