Like father like son. If the IPL mastermind Lalit Modi attracts controversy like a magnet, his son Ruchir Modi too has it in his DNA.

Ruchir’s entry into state cricket was seen as continuation of Lalit’s unfinished agenda. Like his father, Ruchir fought Rajasthan Cricket Association's (RCA) election against Dr CP Joshi and lost but as president of the Alwar District Cricket Association president remained at loggerheads with Dr Joshi.

The IPL gave a perfect opportunity to both rivals to slug it out. Inflated expenditure on refurbishing SMS stadium added fuel to fire.

Talking exclusively to DNA, Ruchir said that he was fed up with the ‘nuisance’ surrounding escalated expenditure incurred on the SMS Stadium and is about to file PIL to bare the truth.

Ruchir said that the BCCI has not received any detailed information on stadium and renovation tender and they have not received the cost analysis of that tender. “There should be auditing of the details as per Lodha Committee Reforms. On this issue I will be filing a PIL in a day or two as I can’t allow them to commit fraud. I asked CP Joshi to first put his signature on the bill and my people will follow, but he himself refused to sign it,” he added.

CAN’T LET FRAUD HAPPEN

The tender was of approximately Rs 2.5 crore, but the bill that was put out for the same works carried out was of Rs 4.2 crore. I am not going to have my secretary and treasurer sign bills which when we asked for supporting evidence and details to be audited, we were not provided with. So why should we sign it? That’s the only issue Dr Joshi has with us and they are playing out in a manner that there is nothing actually wrong. This doesn’t make sense that plastic seats renovation costs a figure like that. During my father’s time it didn’t cost more than Rs 50 lakh for similar work. I understand after all the escalation and inflation rates would be higher, but not Rs 4.2 crore.

ON RAISING ALARM BEFORE IPL & NOT EARLIER

Yes the tender was issued earlier, but it was of Rs 2.1 crore and the bill came just a week ago. The bill has been raised by a company named M/s Creative Project Pvt Ltd and asked for more evidence. We had raised objection on the company with CP Joshi’s group earlier as well and they said they will be coming back to us with proof and evidence. Bills have not been signed and passed and we are not going to pass such bills until and unless they are justified and are in the interest of Rajasthan Cricket Association (RCA).

ROYALS HAVE ISSUES WITH JAIPUR MAYOR

What I know is that Rajasthan Royals don’t have any issues with RCA because they have taken SMS Stadium on a six-week lease and have ultimate control of the stadium for the entire duration of the tournament. The reasons that I have heard as to why Royals may consider a shift is because they’re not receiving any support from mayor Ashok Lahoti because he (mayor) too have some vested interests which are not being fulfilled by the Royals.

HOW CAN JOSHI EXPECT GOODWILL?

The accreditation of our entire group was done and approved by BCCI and handed over to Joshi and he didn’t hand them over to us. RCA gets 10% share of the ticketing. CP Joshi said that I want all the tickets in my hand and I will give them personally. And he gave the RCA secretary and treasurer 30 general tickets each worth Rs1,000. He gave government of Rajasthan absolutely zero.
