Australian national coach, Justin Langer who had previously referred to Australian cricket as a dysfunctional family has now said that that he feels like the “director of a soap opera”, especially after the speculations rounding about the trio involved in the ball-tampering scandal,
The coach said, “It’s all just part of the soap opera we’re in every day. I feel like a director of a soap opera at the moment, I honestly do.”
Langer, Test captain Tim Paine, and ODI skipper Aaron Finch have all made it clear that Steve Smith and David Warner are soon to return after their year-long bans end.
Cameron Bancroft who was also on a nine-month suspension was released to play in the Big Bash League.
However, Cricket Australia was unhappy with Fox Sports airing Smith’s and Bancroft’s interviews on the Boxing Day – one of the most revered days on the sport’s calendar.
Warner, who has become a scapegoat by Smith and Bancroft, has remained silent. His lack of words was both criticised and praised.
“That was just another distraction last week. That’s part of coaching. It’s man management, looking after people and caring for people,” Langer said.
Smith and Warner are still part of Langer’s team.
“We’re in touch with the boys all the time, there’s a really good process we’re going to go through to get the boys back into the team,” Langer added.
