From October 1, sports utility vehicle (SUV) Duster of French automobile major Renault would cost Rs30,000-Rs40,000 more across India.

The company said on Saturday it had to raise the price due to rising input costs and rupee volatility.

"Facing an increase in raw material prices and instability in foreign exchange, factors which are beyond our control, we had to increase the retail price of Duster," said Marc Nassif, managing director.

The SUV was introduced a couple of months ago at a price of Rs7.19 lakh for the entry level petrol variant.

Nassif said the company was planning to introduce three shifts at its Chennai factory to meet the demand for the vehicle.

"To meet the demand for the Duster we have increased our production to 3 shifts in our Chennai factory as well as the output of our vendors."
