Meet farmer who left engineering job for horticulture; runs his own brand now

When it comes to high paying jobs in India, most people look at MBA graduated and engineers. While IIT and IIM graduates make up majority of the highest paid workforce in the country, a farmer named Pramod Gautam left this field to grow crops.

Pramod Gautam from Maharashtra has one of the most unique success stories which turned him from an engineer into the a farmer.

Pramod Gautam used to work at a big MNC as an automobile engineer and had a hefty salary, but he never found fulfillment at his job. Gautam had huge farmland to his name, and decided to leave his job and turn a farmer and entrepreneur.

Not sticking to traditional farming, the engineer turned entrepreneur decided to take a new route and explore horticulture, which is the art of growing fruits and vegetables inside a greenhouse, applying great science and techniques.

Gautam started out small, with just farming peanuts (moongfali) and turmeric (haldi) at the start. Not seeing much profit, he set out to grow moong dal. His variety of moong dal was unpolished and free of adulteration and didn’t require lots of labour.

Soon, with growing profits and prominence in Maharashtra’s Nagpur, Pramod Gautam started his own dal brand called Vandana Foods, which sells different types of pulses and grains. His brand of packaged grain is now available for sale across the country through Amazon and Flipkart.
